I am pro preworkout. I use it every. single. workout. Basically, preworkout is a stimulant, with lots of caffeine and other good stuff. It gives you a burst of energy, to varying degrees depending on your product, intending to keep you going through your workout. I would say you get about thirty minutes of energy out of it. This is my experience with both Bucked Up and Alani Nu. I suggest if you want to do it, to really go slow and pick a preworkout that isn’t super potent. Whatever you get, ease in and start off using a 1/3 or 1/4 scoop.
If you’re weary of preworkout but still need that bit of extra energy PUMP is your gal. I’ve only used Pump from Alani Nu so I can’t really recommend anything other than their product. I’ve also never used Pump without preworkout. To me, this is like a life extender on the energy boost. I’m sure it works great alone, but I like to mix it with my BCAAs and consume it through my whole workout (safe, I know). But to put it in perspective, I am smashing through 90-100 minute workouts now. While still dying this combo has made my workouts more efficient all the way through.
Protein powder. I get a lot of questions about this stuff. I, too, had a lot of questions about it. Roughly, there’s 21-23g of protein per scoop. It’s the same thing as having a serving of chicken. It won’t make you big, bulky, or manly. It’s also not necessary for performance but it will help you meet your protein macros if it’s something you’re concerned about. You need enough protein in your diet to build lean muscle.
I’ve used Women’s Best and Alani Nu’s Vegan protein. Neither are amazing tasting, imo. Women’s Best definitely beats out Alani for me. It may just be the vegan part that ruins it as I’ve had iso whey that’s tasted great. Overall, Alani Nu’s protein is my least favorite protein powder I’ve tried. It’s grainy and has a bad after taste. Is it drinkable? Absolutely. And will I finish it? 100%. Supplements are EXPENSIVE. But more than likely, I’ll go back to Women’s Best vegan protein. If you have any vegan protein reccs, though, please comment below. I’m willing to branch out.
